The Large is the size most Big Green Egg owners settle on: 46 cm of cooking surface, enough for a couple of chickens or a decent joint, without the bulk of the XL. The ceramic body holds heat so efficiently that a single load of charcoal will run for a very long cook.

What arrives in the box matters here. As well as the EGG itself you get the ConvEGGtor, the ceramic plate that converts it from a direct grill into an indirect oven for pizza, bread, brisket and roasts, and which is often an extra elsewhere. Also included are the firebox, the improved fire ring and fire grate, a steel cooking grid, the rEGGulator top vent and a 3 inch Tel-Tru dome thermometer. The airflow design takes it from cold to 300 degrees Celsius in around 20 minutes, and it works the same in rain or snow.
